The Head Baseball Coach sees athletics as an opportunity to glorify God and enjoy Him by discipling players off the field, striving for excellence on the field, loving our neighbors through the field, and sending our players out as instruments of righteousness into the world.  

 

Job Title:  Upper School Head Baseball Coach (Certified Teacher or Stipend Only)

 

Reports to: Assistant Athletic Director, Director of Athletics, Head of School

 

Qualifications:

  2. Shall be one who follows Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and can articulate the Gospel and their testimony in any situation.  
  3. Has a strong history of active participation, attendance, or membership in a church with doctrine and beliefs that are in alignment with the school’s Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality and have multiple references able to verify the same. 
  4. Will provide examples of systematically using the game of baseball to disciple young people in the past and can point to former players out in the world currently doing the same thing (Proverbs 22:6).  
  5. Has proven success as a Head Coach or coordinator at the varsity level in a private school or UIL 3A level and above.  
  6. Will be able to give tangible evidence of investing in their community for God’s glory.
  7. Shall be a college graduate and one who is passionate about the school’s mission and believes that serving in Christian education would be pleasing to God and good stewardship of their gifts and talents. 

 

Job Duties

 

  Spiritual:

  1. Systematically create opportunities to share the Gospel and grow disciples through the game of baseball (Mathew 4:19).  
  2. Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ (Psalm 62:1-2).
  3. Coach in a way that gives glory to God through the game of baseball (Colossians 3:23).
  4. Serve as a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions, a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ (1st Corinthians 11:1).
  5. Show by example the importance of Scripture memorization and study, prayer, witnessing, and unity in Christian fellowship (Psalm 119:11).
  6. Create opportunities to use the game of baseball as a vehicle to love our neighbors (Mark 12:31).  
  7. Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, staff, and administration.

  Personal:

  1. Demonstrate the character qualities of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in their interactions with others.
  2. Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration.
  3. Respectfully submit and demonstrate loyalty to constituted authority.
  4. Maintain a personal appearance that is a role model of cleanliness, modesty, and good taste, in agreement with school policy.
  5. Use acceptable English in written and oral communication. Speak with clear articulation.

  General Responsibilities:

  1. Cooperate with administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school (Romans 13).  
  2. The applicant shall demonstrate a familiarity with the operations of a school athletic program and possess the personality and administrative skills required for success (Luke 12:42-48).
  3. Maintain regularly scheduled hours as assigned by the supervisor.
  4. Keep students, parents, coaches and the administration adequately informed of progress or deficiencies and give sufficient notice of failure (Matthew 5:37).
  5. Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered work environment.
  6. Support the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities when possible.

 

  Professional:

  1. Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth including the systematic scheduling of athletic events around all on-campus staff development opportunities.   
  2. Seek the counsel of the principal, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude.
  3. Provide input and recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school.
  4. Attend and participate in scheduled devotional, in-service retreats, committee, and faculty meetings.
  5. Follow established procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature. Maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.
  6. Contribute to the general improvement of the school program.
  7. Refuse to use or circulate confidential information inappropriately.

 

  Upper School Head Baseball Coach

  1. Discipleship:  
    1. Set up a systematic plan for using the game of baseball to disciple athletes.  That plan should include sharing the Gospel and introducing resources that will encourage our athletes to grow in their faith.  
    2. Serve as a positive Christian role model and mentor for student-athletes, promoting spiritual growth in alignment with the Fort Bend Christian Academy’s purpose, mission, vision and values.  
    3. Encourage and support the academic success of student-athletes, ensuring they meet the school's standards by setting up time to meet with the players and walk through their grades on a regular basis.  
    4. Foster a sense of accountability, responsibility, and leadership among team members by delegating real responsibility on and off the field, not just mundane tasks.  
    5. Communicate effectively with student-athletes and their parents using the FBCA sanctioned means of communication.  
  2. Program Leadership and Development:  
    1. Develop and implement a comprehensive vision and philosophy for the baseball program that aligns with the school's mission and values.
    2. Oversee all aspects of the baseball program, including tryouts, practices, games, and off-season conditioning.
    3. Coordinate the baseball program across different levels (e.g., varsity, junior varsity, middle school) to ensure a cohesive and developmental approach.
    4. Manage the team budget, equipment, and facilities in a responsible manner.
  3. Coaching and Player Development:
    1. Provide effective instruction in baseball fundamentals, strategies, and techniques.
    2. Develop individualized training plans to help student-athletes reach their full potential.
    3. Foster a positive and supportive team environment that emphasizes excellence, integrity, team first focus, and second mile mentality.
    4. Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
    5. Work to retain student-athletes within the program.
    6. Implement preseason, in-season, postseason and offseason plans - including summer camps.
  4. Compliance and Administration:
    1. Oversee the entire Upper School and Middle School baseball program, including but not limited to promotion of the entire baseball program. 
    2. Develop practice and game schedules, monitor and enforce student eligibility for extracurricular participation, oversee cleaning, repair and secure storage of equipment and uniforms.  
    3. Baseball administrative duties such as picking officials, scheduling sub-varsity games, etc.  
    4. Ensure compliance with all TAPPS regulations.
    5. Work with the Athletic Director in hiring and supervision of baseball coaching assistants.
  5. School Community Involvement:  
    1. Represent the school and the baseball program in a Christilike manner.
    2. Create opportunities for the baseball program to serve the community.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, including in an outdoor environment.
  2. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, reach overhead, frequently lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  3. This position is an exempt, twelve month, full-time assignment. He/she is eligible for full-time benefits. The position regularly requires that work be performed evenings and weekends. This job description is subject to change during the school year.
